Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet
Challenge
Cool Globes was planning their Public Art with a Purpose exhibit in LA but they essentially only had a location (Expo Park) without artists confirmed, sponsors, media attention, school/student involvement, city support or a launch event confirmed. And, just four short weeks before the globe installation.
Solution
LPI got involved in virtually all aspects of the program: secured Sempra Energy and LA Times Magazine as the main sponsors for LA, secured support of LA Mayor Villaraigosa, Councilwoman Wendy Greuel, Governor Schwarzenegger, Environmentalist Laurie David and Actress Amber Valletta who all attended and participated in the launch event at Expo Park in LA. In addition to running all aspects of the launch, LPI secured artists to customize globes for LA, helped create environmental curriculum and coordinate with local schools for students to attend and created a large buzz for the exhibit before it was unveiled and around Earth Day in LA.
Results
A superstar-studded unveiling with hundreds of schoolchildren, A-list celebrities and VIPs making the Cool Globes event THE story of Earth Day in Los Angeles. PR coverage included hundreds of mentions, news helicopter coverage on live news, a multi-page story in LA Times, photos and stories in national outlets including USA Today, NY Times, Newsweek and more. Awareness for the organization and cause exploded after the LA exhibit with invitations to move the globes to Copenhagen and London. Best of all, the costs were nominal with most services donated (crucial for a non-profit). The campaign worth more than $100,000 was conducted for a fraction of the cost.
